BOOK BY BOOK
The West Branch Lincoln Library is about to lose its books, but, for a small fee, the public can take them home this weekend.
As the city prepares to use the space at 1251 W. Washington for other agencies, the shuttered building is about to shed its essential elements. Books, music and videos are being sold to the public starting today. The sale lasts from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, Friday, April 1, and Saturday, April 2.
The materials being sold are duplicates of items that can still be found at the main Lincoln Library building, at 326 S. Seventh Street.
The West Branch facility hasn’t been in operation since early 2010, when funding became too scarce. The Southeast Branch Library closed about the same time, but materials were more immediately removed to the main branch, donated or sold.
West Branch materials being sold this weekend will cost between $1 and $3 for each book. Books-on-tape and videotapes will cost $1 and CDs and DVDs will cost $2. Shelves and furniture will not be sold.
