Central Illinois has a lot of great nonprofit groups that help the poor and the vulnerable of all ages. They do great work and meet a lot of important needs, but sometimes their presence on the Internet leaves something to be desired. Websites that seem to have been designed when the Internet was still a novelty are common, but it costs a lot to create a new website.

Thanks to Springfield-based Levi, Ray and Shoup Web Solutions, one lucky nonprofit in central Illinois will soon get an online rejuvenation. LRS has chosen 10 finalists in its Big Website Makeover contest, and the company is asking local Internet users to pick the winner. Among the finalists are seven Springfieldbased nonprofits: Computer Banc, Crime Stoppers of Sangamon and Menard Counties, Elizabeth Ann Seton Program, Helping Hands of Springfield, Lincoln Land Down Syndrome Society, Senior Services of Central Illinois and Youth Service Bureau. If your life has been touched by one of these helpful organizations – or if you just think their current website needs a lot of help – you can vote for them in the contest by visiting www.lrs.com and clicking the large contest banner at the top of the page. Voting ends Aug. 23.
