Join spoken word artists in the fight against cancer May 23 at the Hoogland Center for the Arts.

The “AfroFlow Tour” stops in Springfield this Sunday at 6 p.m., featuring hip-hop and spoken word recording artist MIKE-E, vocalist Kenny Watson, DJ Invisible, African percussionist Keita, and Senegalese bassist and singer Pathé Jassi.

The event, developed in cooperation with the American Cancer Society, strives to raise cancer awareness and tobacco prevention through youth engagement and entertainment. AfroFlow recognizes hip-hop’s indigenous roots and inspirational messages, using them in an interactive stage show to convey important health-related messages.

The event is free and open to the public.
