Mr. Opporknockity This rock quintet dominated the band scene in Springfield around the turn of the century with energetic live shows, exciting original songs and an incredible base of friends and fans. Originally an acoustic guitar/vocal duo with Doug Gholson and Troy Roark, after scoring a local radio hit with Lisa’s Shirt the twosome became a quartet with the addition of Mark Sanders (drums) and Tom Irwin (bass). Soon Chris Camp (harmonica, percussion, accordion. vocals) joined, then later Steve Myers took over bass duties to finalize the band lineup. Accomplishments of the group include producing several all-original CDs, winning the rock band category in Illinois Times’ Best of Springfield a few times, plus opening for Journey at the Illinois State Fair and Blessid Union of Souls at the Atrium. At the reunion show on Saturday the group hosts special guests, plans fun giveaways and offers up the Mr. Othology, a USB drive packed with every song the band ever recorded plus extras, as well as delivering the ever-present exuberance and enthusiasm associated with Mr. Opporknockity.
