Bing Crosby says it best: “Baby, it’s cold outside.”

As winter seeps into Springfield, there are too many families out there who could use a little warmth and a little cheer. That’s just what Eastside Pride, with the help of the Springfield Housing Authority and Coca-Cola, is trying to do this month with its fourth annual coat drive.

The local organization hopes that you’ll drop off clean, gently used coats, hats and gloves at the Community Center, 1411 E. Jefferson St., from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 5. The winter-wear will be distributed to Harvard Park and McClernand Elementary Schools, Contact Ministries and Helping Hands.

You can also drop off donations before Dec. 5 at these locations: Genisis Barber & Beauty Shop, Illinois Association of Minorities in Government, Lincoln Land Community College — Springfield East, Party Creations, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Shear Excellence, Springfield Community Federation, Union Baptist Church and the University of Illinois Springfield Volunteer Center.
