We usually overlook the mind, body and spirit connection when it comes to our wellness and health care. A lot of people don’t believe it works, but it does work. We are just now beginning to understand things like the placebo effect and how the belief that we are healing actually has the potential to make us well.
In the midst of all the hype surrounding the health care reform debate, both the proponents and opponents of reform are overlooking the answer to fixing the health care system. The answer is “wellness.”
What if you could avoid trips to the doctor or reduce the need for medication with something as simple as drinking herbal tea each morning? Or reduce anxiety and stress with guided meditation instead of prescription drugs? Health care by definition means caring for your health, but too many people don’t.
That’s why we’re organizing a “Holistic Healing and New Age Bazaar” on Oct. 17 and 18, in partnership with a local holistic healing and new age business, Visions by JDR. It will highlight the talents of holistic healers, alternative health care practitioners and psychics.
The event will be Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the Rt. 66 Conference Center on South Sixth Street in Springfield. A list of the workshops, their schedules and participants can be found at www.visionsbyjdr.info.
How do psychics fit into the health care picture? Psychics use their natural intuitive talents to advise people on how to reconcile or otherwise deal with their past, to understand the present and to look forward with hope towards the future. They help improve a person’s mental, emotional and spiritual wellness.
Many professionals in the health care system agree and more hospitals and medical centers are expanding their services to include alternative health care and healing practices. The National Center for Complimentary and Alternative Medicine states that U.S. adults spend almost $33.9 billion a year out of pocket for alternative medicines and health care.
The bazaar will feature “Springfield first” practitioners of Reiki, massage, naturopathy, chiropractic, hypnotherapy with psychics and dream interpreters as well as metaphysical merchandise and instructional workshops.
