Miley Cyrus

Anything is possible! Last month’s election results proved that we are a changing nation and much of the credit has been given to the Millennial Generation. Born between 1980 and 2000, they’re nearly as large as the Baby Boomers, and they’re the ones who are clearly influencing the landscape of America. Gen X has come and gone – Gen Y is here to show us what can be accomplished with grass roots movements, the Internet and a strong sense of drive and ambition.

The Millennials are entering the workforce en masse and Miley Cyrus, at the tender age of 16 as of November 23 rd , epitomizes the term overnight sensation.

Miley developed an interest in music early on, writing songs and learning to sing while still a preteen, and in 2005 she landed a role that allowed her to put her skills to work. Cyrus was cast in the title role of Hannah Montana playing a teenage girl leading a double life — by day, she’s Miley Stewart, an ordinary kid dealing with school, friends, siblings, and everything a 14-yearold experiences, while at night she dons a wig and becomes Hannah Montana, a multi-platinum pop star whose career is guided by her dad, Robby Stewart, a success ful songwriter. Most of Miley’s friends don’t know she’s also Hannah, and keeping this a secret is fun to watch.

When Miley first auditioned for the role of Hannah Montana, she was considered too young for the part, but her thousand-watt smile and bigger-than-life singing voice caught Disney Channel’s attention. “At first they thought I was too small, and I was just a little string bean at the time,” shares Miley, “but I always wanted to sing and act, so I knew I couldn’t give up.” When Miley won the part she had worked so hard for, she was an immediate success.

Debuting in March 2006, Hannah Montana attracted millions of young viewers. A soundtrack CD was released, featuring Miley singing eight songs from the show along with five related tracks, including a duet between Miley and her father, Billy Ray, on “I Learned from You.” Her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, was also an overnight sensation when his song “Achy Breaky Heart” hit the charts in 1992. Fans of the hugely popular “Hannah Montana” TV show got a chance to experience the thrill of a front row seat seeing their favorite singer, songwriter and actress, Miley Cyrus, perform her nationally sold-out Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert

Tour on the big screen. It was a special Disney Digital 3- D™ presentation.

“After my last two years, there have been a lot of things that happened, so I’ve learned just not to judge anyone,” Miley says. What great insight for a young girl to achieve. I think we can all heed this wisdom and add it to our to-do list for the upcoming year.

Miley’s recent relationship with Justin Gaston has made headlines and has been the subject of many critics who believe she is too young for a committed relationship. Nonetheless, Cyrus’s friends and family weigh in saying that they are a good match for each other. Time will tell — that’s for sure.

And speaking of time - we are truly witnessing changing times! Today we have Digital 3-D movies, holograms on CNN, Internet grass roots movements, an African American taking the Presidential oath of office on January 20 th and unseen optimism that is fueling our renewed hope with an invitation for the Millenials and everyone to say – Yes We Can!

Happy Holidays Happy New Year 2009.

“Hannah Montana”fans everywhere will have a chance to see their favourite singer, songwriter and actress, Miley Cyrus, featured in a new Disney film written by author Nicholas Sparks specifically to suit the sixteen-year-old actress, released recently.
