This impressive home in Ida, La., has much more than meets the eye.
His name is Michael Stroy, and he says he started at the top and worked his way down in the house-building trade, first as a roofer before going from the ground up in his family's business, Stroy Builders & Roofing, LLC.
"We've been building houses in the Shreveport, Bossier and surrounding areas for probably the last 18 years or so. I'm actually a third-generation builder. My dad was building back in the late ’70s, early ’80s."
This report features one of his latest projects located in Ida, La. "It's almost in Arkansas," Stroy said. "It's up there in Ida. It's the last home before you cross the state line."
It's a custom build for a client who contacted Stroy to make his new home design a reality. "He's from that area and decided to move back to his hometown. He reached out to us.”
Stroy has built homes on Ellerbe Road, Kingston Plantation and Cypress Bend, among other locations.
The Ida property has more than meets the eye as you look at it. "There was a lot of work in the ground that you don't see," Stroy explained. "It's more into the soundness and structure of the house. I really like the detail and the dressing up. But I really get into the construction of the home to get the look he wanted. There was a lot of inground work that had to be done that you don't see.
"It took about 11 months to get it done because of the supply chain [being] all messed up and the weather and all. But we got it done, and it turned out to be a beautiful home."
Stroy worked with subcontractors he's developed a relationship over his career. They provide HVAC systems, plumbing, siding, windows, kitchens and more. On the Ida project, Michael worked with Berry Plumbing, Bills Heating and Air, Custom Wired Electric, Alberto Perez Framing, John Key Trim Carpentry, MS Flooring, Rameriz Drywall, Javin Gomez Painting, Assured Insulation, Rain Pro Gutters, Blue Haven Pools and Sound Minds.
"Some of my vendors are LCR Plumbing Warehouse Appliance and Plumbing Fixtures, River City Lighting, MII Distributors, Window Technologies, Spell Brothers Lumber Co., Custom Built Lumber, Red River Ready Mix, Coopers Irrigation and ArkLaTex Garage Doors," he added.

Stroy said his favorite feature on the Ida home is the back door, a 10x20 expanse of sliding glass.
But this is a full-service company. They also offer roofing, home improvement, remodeling, renovations, industrial buildings and warehouses. They have their own real estate company, too.
And, on a different note, they can help with your transportation needs.
The Stroys raise, sell and show AQHA and APHA horses.
"I've been in area over 30 years. I've worked with some of the best builders in town," Stroy said. "Those guys inspired me. They don't know it, but I watched them."
