ArtBreak Jazz Jam

FRIDAY, APRIL 26 - 7:00 P.M.

Friday night at ArtBreak 2019 is “All About Jazz,” as Green Oaks Performing Arts Academy Band Director Jeremiah Furlow invites Byrd, Caddo Magnet, Northwood and Woodlawn High School students to “jam” with some old favorite jazz tunes during ArtBreak’s first-ever Jazz Jam Session beginning at 7 p.m. at the Shreveport Convention Center to kick off ArtBreak’s Family Fun weekend.

“This year’s brand new ArtBreak Jazz Jam is a chance for high school musicians to be exposed to a platform of real music that requires real talent in a fun and competitive setting that opens the mic and takes away the fear of making a mistake,” said Jeremiah Furlow, organizer of the event. Jamming is musical improvisation. It’s about being inspired by some of the real jazz greats such as Grover Washington, Miles Davis and John Coltrane, as well as some of our great local musicians the “Dirty Redd” Band with trumpeter Don Crenshaw and Windstorm with Northwood High School Band Director Curtis Mills. This is going to be fun entertainment with a little bit of musical competition “chopping heads,” added Furlow.

KTAL-6 ARTBREAK’S GOT TALENT SHOW

SATURDAY, APRIL 27 - 7:00 P.M.

On Saturday night at ArtBreak 2019, it’s the showcase of Caddo Parish student talent you wait for all year long with KTAL-6 ArtBreak’s Got Talent beginning at 7 p.m. at the Shreveport Convention Center on the Citizens National Bank Stage. KTAL-6 ArtBreak’s Got Talent made its debut in 2017, and each year since has enthusiastically awarded the lucky talent show winner with a $500 cash prize and an all-expense-paid trip to audition privately with the producers of the hit NBC show, “America’s Got Talent.”

“Our NBC 6 staff loves and supports the arts in the area. We are extremely proud to be part of ArtBreak, one of the premier art events in the ArkLaTex,” said Mark McKay, vice president/general manager, KTAL-6.

The 2018 KTAL-6 ArtBreak’s Got Talent Show winner was the Caddo Magnet High School musical group “Orthodox Alloy” (Randon Ladner, Johnum Palado, and Will Wright), which not only won Best of Show in the competition, but also won the $200 People’s Choice award. Other winners included: Best of High School Joshua Flippo, Best of Middle School Sachiri Henderson, and Best of Elementary Kennedy Haviland.

Elementary, middle and high school contestants auditioned for the 2019 ArtBreak’s Got Talent competition on March 19, and 19 students were selected to compete for the $500 Best of Show prize as well as $200 prizes each for Elementary Best, Middle School Best and High School Best. The audience also gets to vote with their applause, and a $200 cash prize is awarded to the People’s Choice talent.

ArtBreak 2019 is taking it to the stage and pumping up the jam to show off some of the most talented performers in Northwest Louisiana on Friday and Saturday nights. It’s the largest annual showcase of schoolage singers, dancers, musicians, and performers in the south, and it’s this weekend, April 26 and 27, at the Shreveport Convention Center. On with the show!
