   The Krewe of Atlas hosted
its coronation at the American Legion at an indooroutdoor soiree this
summer. A day by the lake lent itself to the theme, “Party Time.” Guests
took in the sights, sounds and smells as they strolled along the Atlas
boardwalk. Atlas held Grand Bal I at the American Legion and is now
celebrating its tenth anniversary. Their traditional booze barrel raffl e
brought in extra funds. Master of ceremonies was Terry Nabors of
Houston with musical entertainment by DJ Jay Cougar of Shreveport.

The Philadelphia Center presented
“Stayin’ Alive: Stayin’ Healthy, Stayin’ Strong” as the theme for its
28th Annual Auction Against AIDS. It was held in August at Sam’s Town
Hotel and Casino. Performances by local drag artists brought to life
Cher, Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle, The Weather Girls and Donna
Summer. Board president Lonnie McCray was the auction chair. Central
Station’s “Shake your Booty” barrel of booze contest was among other fun
activities. – Mary Ann Van Osdell
Framed, a
one-day interactive exhibit, focused on local photography, art and
music, local visual art, interactive art installations and live music by
a fresh local indie group, 66 Bucks Famous, and local audio-visual
band, Vela Nora. The requested donation supported CoCreative to help
plan future events. “Framed: A Summer Art Exhibit” was born when
CoCreative began looking for ways to get F-Stop Mafia more involved in
the city. Creating this exhibit was the perfect opportunity for F-Stop
photography members to show their own unique take on living in
Shreveport and share it with other artists. The event was held at
minicine this summer. – Mary Ann Van Osdell See also
