CHRISTUS HEALTH AMONG 100 BEST HOSPITALS CHRISTUS

Health Shreveport-Bossier has been recognized as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Patient Experience by the Women’s Choice Award, America’s trusted referral source for the best in health care. This evidence-based designation is the only award that identifies the country’s best health-care institutions based on Medicare data weighed according to the preference of women in a 2016 national survey of 1,000-plus female respondents.

The health system also received top awards for obstetrics, cancer care and bariatric surgery.

“Women are the chief medical officer for the household, making upwards of 90 percent of all health-care decisions. Considering she bears the responsibility of making these incredibly important decisions, the Women’s Choice Award offers a trusted solution by identifying the hospitals that have proven superior patient experience. Finally, a source that shares her values and priorities is available,” said Delia Passi, CEO and founder of the Women’s Choice Award.

LINEAR ACCELERATOR NOW IN USE AT WILLIS- KNIGHTON

Earlier in 2016 Willis-Knighton Health System purchased two Elekta Versa HD linear accelerators as part of the Willis-Knighton Cancer Center’s continuing technology upgrades. The first of the accelerators has been installed, and patients are being treated using this advanced linear accelerator technology.

Linear accelerators have been used for radiation therapy since the center opened in 2000. Dr. Lane Rosen, director of radiation oncology at the center, said the new equipment will be used to deliver Image Guided Radiation Therapy, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy, Stereotactic Radiosurgery and Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy.

Willis-Knighton has been at the leading edge of linear accelerator technology, the effectiveness of which has been enhanced in recent years. Those enhancements include advances in TomoTherapy IMRT developed by Rosen and his partners at the Willis-Knighton Cancer Center.

“Elekta, the manufacturer of this new equipment, has asked us to partner with them to teach others how to use their equipment effectively in a community hospital setting,” Rosen said.
