Series will highlight best practices and accomplishments in area schools

Step Forward announces the introduction of “Bright Spot Briefs” a six-week series highlighting accomplishments in area schools across Northwest Louisiana. Each week, two bright spot briefs will be released.

These one page summaries are designed to identify and share best practices that are resulting in academic improvements in the classroom, whole school or across the entire district. A “bright spot” is a method or strategy that is solutions-focused, results-driven and replicable by others. Step Forward aims to find what works and do more of it for the mutual benefit of students, educators and citizens.

This week’s Bossier Parish success story is Meadowview Elementary School, which was recently named a Top Gains

School. It raised its school performance score 10.8 points and improved its letter grade from a “D” to a “C.” A change in school leadership and use of community literacy volunteers are credited with this achievement.

Captain Shreve High School in Caddo Parish increased its school performance score from 82.3 to 97.7 by employing a more engaging teaching strategy and increasing advanced placement and dual credit offerings.
