Woodland escape has it all

Renovated, remodeled and refined describe this five bedroom and five and one-half bathroom home located on Lake Forbing Drive in Shreveport.

Originally built in the 1980s, the more than 4,000-square-foot home was already a gem just waiting to be discovered in Shreveport’s Lake Forbing Estates neighborhood.

Located right off Line Avenue, this neighborhood is just mere steps from popular spots. Large lots back up to the beautiful Lake Forbing and are surrounded with tall trees that provide a woodland escape near the center of town.

The home’s painted exterior, in Benjamin Moore’s Painted Tapestry Beige, was completed by Johnny Johnson Painting to be a neutral yet dynamic contrast to the woods surrounding the home.

Opening the front door, huge floorto-ceiling, two-story Marvin windows paint the backdrop for a peaceful scene.

A gold almost flush mounted light fixture from House of Carpets in Shreveport contrasts the blue painted ceiling. The earthen tones juxtaposed to nature’s landscape is just what the homeowners envisioned when they embarked on their home remodel and additions three years ago with builder Terry Elston and architect Ben Patterson.

The reflection of the natural light of the home bounces on the mosaic mirrored wall of the entry way designed to open and brighten the space.

The living room, lit with natural light, features several white furniture pieces with pops of blue from Briggs & Company in Shreveport. Interior decorating was completed by Jamey Briggs.

Kitchen and Bath Cottage worked with the homeowners to select a unique stone mantle that was special ordered from Francois & Company. Accented over the fireplace mantle is a 3D painting completed by local artist, Ashley Palmer.

Transitioning from the living room to the kitchen and dining room are sanded, antique pine beams purchased through Custom Built Cabinet & Supply in Shreveport.

A rustic and elegant combination of cedar and antique mirrored glass are combined in the kitchen. Kitchen and Bath Cottage included two large Sub Zero side-by-side refrigerators atop four pull-out freezer drawers are adorned with antique mirrored glass to blend the appliances into the space. A Wolf brand gas cooktop, two ovens and built in steamer are ready to prepare meals in the home.

Marbled countertops and artistic kitchen backsplash tile were selected for style and functionality through the Kitchen and Bath Cottage. A stone vent hood from Francois & Company completes the transition from the living room to the kitchen.

Custom window treatments from Briggs & Company, as well as shades and plantation shutters from Watts Window World, are used throughout the home.

What was once intended to be a quiet sitting room in the original home has been transformed into a wine room ready to entertain. Just on the other side of two siding, custom barn doors, a painted foil texture on the ceiling sets the stage for sophisticated conversation. Briggs & Company included greys, greens, silver and khaki into the décor in this room.

Nearby the kitchen is a media room and LSU-themed office featuring an L-shaped built in desk and custom cabinetry. A wooden sculpture was transformed into a light fixture by C&C Electric in Shreveport, and grass cloth wallpapered ceilings give the room the extra pop of nature.

Autographed LSU footballs, helmets and university memorabilia bring the family’s favorite university into the office space.

On the lower level of the two story home, the master suite carries the reclaimed pine beams into the bedroom on the vaulted ceilings. Wide planked wooden floors are washed in a light grey finish flow throughout the home leading to the master bathroom.

Marble floors and countertops are chicly contoured to highlight the oversized master bath. A Bain Ultra freestanding tub is positioned near wall-supported plumbing fixtures. A large glass and marble shower is included in the bathroom’s design.

Custom Brookhaven cabinetry surrounds his and her sinks and a separate seated vanity. Two separate walk-in closets both include marbletopped islands in the middle of the closet space.

The lower level of the home also includes a guest bedroom and full bath ready to accommodate company.

Around the corner from the master suite and guest bath, the home has its own workout room equipped with cork flooring and mirrored walls. The view from the backyard is the perfect addition to any workout.

A second home office on the main level of the home is decorated in grey with bright accents of red. A sassy, bright red office chair sits below a custom designed red light fixture. A cork wall is ready for organization, reminders and to display family artwork.

Custom iron handrails and railing lead upstairs beside wooden stairs topped by a carpeted runner. Two Juliette balconies off the second story landing can be closed off by way of pocketed doors to close off sounds upstairs. Custom ironwork is continued on the Juliette balconies.

The three bedrooms upstairs are decorated by sports themes for the children of the home. A mixture of purple, gold, navy and grey flood the space. Three Blue Dog paintings are featured on the second-story gaming room.

A backyard patio doubles as an outdoor kitchen equipped with a Wolf fish fryer, grill, sink and minirefrigerator. Grey and black granite, from Classic Stone in Bossier City, contrasts the bright blue pool just beyond the space. An upholstered patio set by Ebel was purchased at Corner Collection on Line Avenue.

House of Carpets provided a dropped, double fan and can lighting for the back patio.

The back patio overlooks a rectangular sports pool installed by True Blue Pools. The homeowners wanted to keep the pool layout simple to not distract from the view. A waterfall trickles from the sunken hot tub to the main pool. A built-in layout deck was incorporated into the pool design.

The exterior of the home was landscaped by Hoogland’s Landscape and Nursery in Bossier City.

Landscape lighting provided by Red River Lighting, along with beautiful New Orleans Bevolo gas lanterns line the back porch to light up the night.
