Speed Networking: Nearly 60 business professionals gathered for the spring Morning Blend Speed Networking event held March 26 at Your Room by Johnson’s. Mollie Corbett emceed the event and kept the conversation going among attendees. Amy Kinnaird of UnCommon Sense Marketing was on hand to give helpful networking tips such as how to leave a good impression as well as helped program attendees brush up on networking etiquette.

Hayride: A star-studded lineup of dignitaries was on hand to declare 2015 the Year of the Louisiana Hayride and Community Renewal International at an event held April 11 at the Shreveport Municipal Memorial Auditorium. Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne spearheaded the event along with Shreveport Mayor Ollie Tyler and Bossier City Mayor Lo Walker. Mayor Kip Holden of Baton Rouge, a former deejay, was a special guest. Honored at the news conference were Deborah Evans Price, who was named Country Music Association Media Person of the Year; Krista Fanning, two-time Grammy nominee and Music Teacher of the Year, who includes music history in her lessons at Caddo Middle Magnet; and Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters, who played at Margaritaville later in the evening.

Artport 2015: Flying Colours is the newest theme of the legendary public art exhibit at Shreveport Regional Airport. Artport is one of the only revolving public art displays located in an airport setting in America. An opening night gala was hosted April 2 at Shreveport Regional Airport to unveil more than 100 pieces of custom artwork that will be on display all over the airport for the next three years. The public was invited to the opening night party, which is traditionally the largest art show opening in the region, with more than 1,500 people attending the three hour party this year. Entertainment was provided by Windstorm. Proceeds from a silent auction of artists and celebrity tiles benefitted the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana.

Derby Day: Guests came from as far as Canada to attend “A Race for the Roses,” the Caddo-Bossier Cancer Foundation League’s annual fundraiser. Guests were relatives of founder Monique Dennie. The May 2 event was held at the Southern Trace home of Drs. Maurie and Lane Rosen. Dorsey Summerfield provided music under a tent as guests chose Kentucky Derby horses to bet on for prizes and participated in a duck race in the pool. A grits bar, mint julep truffles and signature drinks were served.

Photographers: The Shreveport Historic Preservation Society hosted a reception April 26 for three photographers who have made a significant difference by their presence in Shreveport. The event was held at the Community Trust Bank (formerly the historic Wray Ford Dealership). The honorees were Jack Barham, Thurman C. Smith and Fletcher Thorn-Thomsen, who shared their most memorable stories. Photographic works of the three were on display.
