Join us for the 64th annual National Day of Prayer observance on May 7th at 11:45 a.m. in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church in downtown Shreveport. The National Prayer will be led by Mayor Ollie Tyler, with a special message from Dr. Pat Day. Additional prayers will be offered specific to the needs of our nation and community: Mr. Mike Adams, local attorney, will pray for our government and judicial system. Mrs. Jessica Russo, wife of an active duty officer, will pray for the nation’s military.
Mr. Cory Ezelle of Sklar Corporation will offer a prayer for our nation’s economy. Mrs. Jody Thurmon, wife and mother, will pray for the nation’s families. Mrs. Mary Harris of the BESE Board will offer a prayer for education; Rev. Jonathan Beck will lead us, and Rev. Alston Johnson will offer a prayer for the Church Universal. Special music will be provided by Mr. Ray Peebles and Ms. Brenda Wimberly. Let us gather on this day, standing together, united in prayer... all of those who are concerned for the direction of our nation, knowing in our hearts that prayer not only changes people, situations, and even the course of history, but also those who pray!
The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May. It is a vital part of our history, a privilege and blessing to all Americans. It is an invitation to people of all faiths to pray for our nation. The 64th annual National Prayer was written by Dr. Jack Graham, 2015 Honorary Chairman. The prayer, entitled “Lord, Hear Our Cry”, emphasizes the need for individuals, corporately and individually, to place their faith in the unfailing character of their Creator.
The scripture chosen to highlight this year’s prayer is I Kings 8:28 “Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day.”
