Home is a mix of tradition and transition

Completed in November of 2013, Matt and Kim Huffty partnered with Justin Sever from Vintage Residential and Looney Ricks Kiss from Baton Rouge to design and build their family’s custom dream home in the Provenance community.
Situated at 3303 Newberry Lane in Shreveport, the 2,617-heated-square foot, five-bed, three-bath home sits at 3,825 square-foot under roof, and is nestled in the traditional neighborhood development of Provenance in South Shreveport. The traditional neighborhood is reminiscent of yesterday’s small towns with a strong sense of community.
The
village setting of the Provenance community has everything one would
need blended with beautiful green areas and friendly faces. As the first
neighborhood/community of its kind in the Shreveport-Bossier City area,
Provenance provides the convenience and quality of life that today’s
families of all ages long to enjoy. The old-timey charm with
well-thought out conveniences makes this neighborhood more than just
home.
The neighborhood surrounds
Windrush Lake, which provides residents with a peaceful place to relax
and unwind after work. Next to the lake is the Windrush Park, where
children can be seen playing and community events are held for
residents.
The Huffty home faces the park located in Phase 2 of the neighborhood development.
By
design, the exterior of the home somewhat resembles a traditional
farmhouse. Hard plank siding mimics “tongue and groove” wood siding that
might have been used a hundred years ago. Recycled brick accents on the
chimney and custom wood windows and doors help to finish the “old
farmhouse” look the Hufftys dreamed. There is a balcony overlapping the
front porch that is the perfect place for the family to sit and watch
their children play at the nearby park.
“All paint choices and most furnishings are from [Medina]. They helped with the design concept of the house,” Kim said.
“Kim
and Matt are clients that every designer hopes for,” Alison McKenzie,
the owner of Medina, said. “They were very open to new ideas but also
had a clear idea of what they wanted their new home to be. We were able
to mix our transitional style with their traditional pieces to create a
home that is unique, beautiful but also livable. From the artwork to the
upholstery and the architecture and finishes, the Huffty home is
nothing short of magnificent. Working with them to create their dream
home was a dream for us.”
The house was
designed around the main (multi-function) room. The living room flows
into the formal dining room and finally into the kitchen. The open floor
plan is inviting with light.
“We opted
for 10-foot ceilings upstairs and down to give the space a much roomier
feel. We put transom windows everywhere and used the same hardwood
flooring throughout the house but splurged on custom shutters and drapes
for window treatment,” Matt said.
Adorned
with a vintage farmhouse sink, the only thing this kitchen is lacking
is a garbage disposal, but to get the true vintage sink, this was
something the husband and wife duo chose to forgo. All stainless
Thermador appliances twinkle against the bright cabinets and
countertops. Custom chandeliers in the kitchen and dining room are from
the House of Carpets in Shreveport and give the kitchen a modern touch
and add even more charisma to the charming home.
“We
wanted to build a house that was modern and fresh but would still be
stylish and relevant as the years go by. We love the timeless details,”
Matt said.
With a budding family, the
Hufftys’ kitchen uses a combination of custom cabinetry and open
shelving to accommodate and organize the family’s needs. The custom
backsplash is embellished with hand-painted tile from Italy. A beautiful
island topped with marble sits in the middle of the kitchen sure to be
topped with children’s art or school projects or surrounded with family
and friends.
The gallery room off the
kitchen has an exposed, inside brick wall and three sets of French doors
that open to the patio to bring in light and create an airy space.
Equipped with a wet bar in the gallery’s nook, family gatherings and
outdoor events can easily be hosted in this home with the outdoor
kitchen area built-in on the home’s outdoor courtyard patio.
A
seemingly pretty basic patio and yard includes an outdoor kitchen and
fire pit, but the Hufftys also use this space to remember their past.
Matt said,
“We salvaged an
iron-rod gate from our last house in South Highlands and had it
reconditioned to be used as our gate from the front yard to the back. It
is estimated that the gate is more than 100 years old.”
Back
in the home, the recycled brick wood-burning fireplace is sure to keep
the family warm this cold winter season. Decorated in a neutral grey
color scheme with splashes of blue, all furniture, rugs and accents came
from Medina. The beige and white quatrefoil rug atop the rustic
hardwood floors divides the living room and dining room into a separate
yet unified space. Recessed lighting creates perfecting lighting for the
area, and builtin surround sound is just the icing on the cake.
Leading
into other rooms, doorways and entryways are topped with interior door
transom windows, which adds the Hufftys’ extra-personalized touch to the
home.
Around
the corner from the living room, the large master bedroom retreat is
breathtakingly refreshing with marble tiered countertops and marble
floor tiles. French doors open to the master bathroom with a large
mirror wall reflecting the custom built-in glass cabinets perfectly
organized. Subway tiles surround the glass encased marble tile shower
beside the garden tub.
Down
the hall from the master suite, the downstairs bathroom houses a custom
porcelain sink with chrome hardware and exposed fixtures. The grey
subway tiles and marble flooring make the small space seem larger.
The laundry room is tucked neatly inside the home by way of pocketed doors.
The
upstairs of the home features three beds, one bath and an office nook.
With high ceilings, a wide staircase, wood flooring and transom windows,
the space has a timeless feel, which is perfect for the Provenance
neighborhood.
