Designed for those who are considering or who have scheduled total hip or total knee replacement surgery. The Willis-Knighton Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Institute offers participants insight into the joint replacement process, from preadmission planning to surgery, follow-up and rehabilitation. Men to Men – Prostate Educational Group

Wednesday, Dec. 17, Noon 2nd Floor Conference Room This educational workshop gives cancer patients and their loved ones information on prostate related issues that will be of value before, during and after cancer treatment. Patients and caretakers will also have the opportunity to discuss their concerns with knowledgeable healthcare professionals.

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT

It’s a great time to grab a cup of hot chocolate and gather family or friends to enjoy a half hour of seasonal music from this wonderful choir under the direction of David Hobson.

Wed. Dec. 3, 4 p.m. Alta and John Franks Community Centre The I-49 Brass Quintet Concert & Sing-Along promises to be an afternoon of holiday favorites – sacred and secular – performed by a group known for humor, unique musical arrangements and excellent performances. Audience members will be invited to sing along with the quintet on a variety of well-known holiday classics. The quintet features Rick Rowell, trumpet; Mark Thompson, bass trombone; Mike Davidson, trombone; and Tom Hundemer, horn. Cost: $5, nonresidents. Registration is required.

Centenary College Choir Christmas Concert & Reception

Guest Performers: Centenary College Choir

Thursday, Dec. 4, 5 p.m. Alta and John Franks Community Centre America’s Singing Ambassadors – the Centenary College Choir – return to The Oaks for their annual holiday concert that includes both modern and classic Christmas music. The concert, which will be preceded by a reception with punch and hors d’oeuvres, will include such favorites as “Winter Wonderland,” “Carol of The Bells” and “Silver Bells.” Cost: $5, nonresidents. Registration is required.

Monday, Dec. 1, 4 p.m. Ballroom, Tower at The Oaks Debra Pickett will explain Medicare Part D (drug coverage for those on Medicare Part A or B), how it works with other insurance, its costs, what the Medicare drug plan covers and how to get it. Book Review: A Red Bird Christmas

Guest Speaker: Maredia Bowdon

Monday, Dec. 15, 2:30 p.m. Alta and John Franks Community Centre As Christians celebrate the birth of the Christ Child, Maredia Bowdon brings a program to The Oaks unlike any she has presented before. In her review of “A Red Bird Christmas” by Fannie Flagg, Bowdon shares the story of Oswald T. Campbell, a lost soul who leaves the cold of a Chicago winter to spend what he believes will be his last Christmas in the town of Lost River. It is a story of kindness, redemption and miracles. Cost: $5, nonresidents. Registration is required.

Healthwise: Back Talk– Tips & Exercises for Strengthening Back Muscles
