Willis-Knighton Health System has scheduled two of its most popular programs for children on back-to-back evenings, Oct. 21 and 22. Dr. Ravi Goel, family practice specialist, will present “Growing Up for Boys” on Oct. 21, and Dr. Nikki Humphries, pediatrician with the WK Center for Pediatrics-South, will present “Growing Up for Girls” on Oct. 22. Both one-hour classes will be held at 6 p.m. in Conference Room B at Willis-Knighton South and the Center for Women’s Health. “Growing Up for Girls” and “Growing Up for Boys” are designed to provide information to prepare children for the physical and emotional changes that come with adolescence. The programs, targeted to children ages 9 to 12, feature physicians who offer easy-to understand information about what to expect during puberty. The goal is not just to inform the youngsters about anatomy but to help them feel comfortable with these changes in an effort to reduce stress and anxiety and promote self-esteem. Each child should be accompanied by a parent or chaperone of the same gender. The-one hour classes are free, and reservations are required for both the child and the parent or guardian. Reservations are available online under the “classes and events” link at wkhs.com or by calling 212- 8225. Space is limited.
