Twelve local speakers from Shreveport- Bossier City will take the stage to share ideas, the community will come together, and one local charity will benefit.

Ignite Shreveport Bossier is independently organized by Justin Martin and will take place 7 to 9 p.m Oct. 23 at the Bossier Arts Council. It is free and open to the public.

Ignite Shreveport Bossier is a night of rapidfire talks that are meant to do three things: enlighten [about a topic], inspire [to take action] and delight [in an unexpected way].

Ignite talks are a chance for members of the community to “geek out” about topics that they are passionate about. The speakers are 12 community members who have five minutes and 20 slides [that auto advance every 15 seconds] to tell a compelling story.

Speaking topics range from loving your city, startups, science, tech and civic engagement to ewaste, design, biking advocacy, historical preservation and more.

Some of the speakers are Stephen Pederson, of SBC Bike Social; Kelly Rich, of Norla Preservation Project; Mollie Corbett, of Mollie Corbett Photography; John Scott Thompson, of Pandabit and Matt Haynes, of The Community Harvest.

Ignite Shreveport Bossier will have a “charity of the night” for the event. The charity for the first Ignite Shreveport Bossier is The Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana.

The Ignite Shreveport Bossier community helps the charity in three ways: local software development firm Twin Engine Labs has agreed to donate $500 to The Food Bank on behalf of the event; two, local electronics recycler Pandabit.com will have an electronics donation box on site, from which the dollar value of all proceeds will be donated to The Food Bank on behalf of the event and the Food Bank’s director of development will be at the event to accept donations from attendees on the night of the event.

Live music entertainment will be present in the lobby shortly before the event and during the 20-minute intermission between each set of six speakers. Ignite Shreveport Bossier’s goal is to share ideas, bring Shreveport and Bossier City together as a community, and to use that community to give back to local charities.
