Louisiana Family Medicine Clinic has expanded from its Jonesboro location and added a second clinic in Bossier City to meet the needs of patients in the Ark-La-Tex. Dr. Dirk Rainwater and his staff opened the doors to their 2500 square foot office in Bossier this May, offering a fullservice, private, independent clinic that specializes in primary care and urgent care. Louisiana Family Medicine Clinic offers same day appointments and concierge-type medicine that will take care of the health needs for the whole family.
Dr. Rainwater is a Bossier City native; he graduated from Bossier High School, Centenary College and completed his medical training at LSU Medical School. Dr. Rainwater brings 10 years of ER experience into his clinic, and feels the quick pace and reaction time needed in the ER has given him a great perspective in family medicine. “Everybody’s classic idea of a doctor - in my opinion -is an ER doctor, someone who can kind of do a little bit of everything. That’s kind of the way doctors used to be 40 or 50 years ago,” said Rainwater. “Now we have kind of moved into this era of super specialists - 70% of doctors graduating now are specialists. I like having my own practice with my own employees. It’s fun to follow patients and see them further along than just in the ER.”
Louisiana Family Medicine Clinic has been open in Jonesboro for three years, and Dr. Rainwater was ready expand and meet the needs of Shreveport/ Bossier City. “I really wanted to get something opened in Bossier. We have a lot of family and friends in Bossier - it was a natural extension to grow my practice by opening something here. We have started in a smaller location on Airline Drive, but we are going to start building a larger location in about 8 months and plan to be moved in by next summer,” said Rainwater. “The clinic in Jonesboro we do everything - in house x-ray, in house lab in house CT in house allergy testing - one stop where we can take care of everything. That’s what I envision in Bossier in the next year or so.”
The staff at Louisiana Family Medicine Clinic are exceptionally experienced. “In Bossier City, I have a full-time Physician’s Assistant that I actually went to high school with named John Messier. He is an integral part of the clinic. He worked up in Vivian for 14 years and was a respiratory therapist before that, as well as a Captain in the National Guard. It’s great to be teamed back up with him. His deployments and experience make him such an important part of the clinic,” said Rainwater. In addition, GYN Nurse Practitioner Jessica Anderson handles the needs of female clients. “Jessica is very experienced in dealing with women’s health issues. She previously worked at Willis Knighton for about 10 years. She strictly does GYN services, including hormone replacement, and is currently finishing up her family medicine practitioners license. When she completes that, she will be on full-time in the Bossier clinic,” explained Rainwater. “With the combination of our experiences, we really are a one stop, full family health service clinic.”
Louisiana Family Medicine Clinic offers same day appointments and accepts all insurance providers, and provides both primary care and urgent care services. “I take the ER approach - basically you want a guy who can take care of anything when you walk in. We take care of minor emergencies to chest pains. If a patient needs to go to the hospital we get them sent there,” he said. “Basically we do a full-service practice in the way that your mom and dad would have been treated. We try to get people in for follow up, get them to whatever specialist they need to see and get all of their preventative health needs taken care of,” said Rainwater. As an independent clinic, patients can choose whichever hospital system they would prefer if needed.
Louisiana Family Medicine Clinic can not only serve your family, it is also a family business. Dr. Rainwater’s wife Tammy works in both clinics, as well has been in charge of decorating both of them and helping to design their future, larger location. She also schedules conferences, education and certifications for the staff. Their daughter Allison works at the Bossier City clinic as an LPN, and their son Derek is a freshman at LSU Med School, following in his father’s footsteps. The Rainwater’s also still have two children still at home; Megan is a sophomore at Benton High School and their youngest daughter Summer is 4 years old.
