Wedding: Former LSU softball pitcher Brittany Mack wed Josh Oakes on March 30 at the Shreveport Country Club. The couple enjoyed dinner on the stage under a lit backdrop of their initials. The oldest married couple on the dance floor was recognized and guests wished the newlyweds goodbye.


Author Fair: The third annual Author Faire featured 35 local authors selling their books June 7 at Hamilton/South Caddo Branch of Shreve Memorial Library. Some of the authors participated in a forum based on various topics of the writing process.


Run with the Nuns: Brother’s Keepers received the Run with the Nuns Humanitarian Award on June 12 at Posado’s in Shreveport. The group of firefighters helps children with its “I’m Still Me” burn camp in East Texas. The eighth annual Run with the Nuns will be Oct. 17-18 in the Red River District. All proceeds benefit children’s health in the region.



Grace Home: Power Up In Faith, a luncheon to honor clergy throughout Northwest Louisiana and raise awareness and support for CHRISTUS Grace Home, featured Father Jonathan Morris. It was held June 12 at Shreveport Municipal Memorial Auditorium. Morris is a nationally recognized speaker and analyst for Fox News and served as a consultant to the film “The Passion of the Christ.” First Priority students helped serve lunch. Elvis Presley tribute artist Richard Cook sang “If That Isn’t Love” to conclude the program in the historic building.

Romantics: The
Romantics had a very friendly meet and greet before their concert June
14 at DiamondJacks Casino. Stephanie Knight was among attendees; she was
celebrating her 40th birthday. DiamondJacks has Lonestar and the
Commodores booked for future concerts.




Komen: The
Southern Belle Survivor Brunch was the theme of the annual Susan G.
Komen event, held June 14 at East Ridge Country Club. Some of the
attendees were 25-year breast cancer survivors. Dr. Julie Mook
recognized them. The event had a tribute area to light a candle in
memory of a loved one, and the road leading to East Ridge was decorated
with pink tulip cutouts. Janie Walters, author of “The Garbage Truck
Comes On Tuesdays and Fridays,” was guest speaker. Sponsor categories
were cleverly designed as I Do Declare, Like Two Peas in a Pod, Kiss My
Grits, Lord Willin’ and the Creek Don’t Rise and Sight for Sore Eyes.





Fashion Show: Cumulus
Broadcasting introduced to the Ark-La-Tex its first fashion weekend,
Chevyland Red Bayou Fashion Weekend. The culminating event was held June
14 at the Shreveport Convention Center. Local designers and boutiques
“battled on the runway” with the prize to be featured on two pages in a
New York magazine. Vendors had booths outside of the main hall. Tickets
were free. A VIP party was held on the rooftop of Horseshoe Hotel and
Casino the day before. Celebrity hosts, designers, models and Cumulus
personnel were on hand at both events.
