Now That’s Italian: Dinner in the Oak Room
Guest Speaker: Vincent Campanella Thursday, June 19, 6 p.m. Oak Room, Tower at The Oaks From the alpine heights of northern Italy to the sun-drenched island of Sicily, take a tantalizing culinary tour around Europe’s most famous bootshaped country with local chef and restaurateur Vincent Campanella and Oaks of Louisiana chefs. It promises to be an evening full of Italian history and culture along with a three-course meal by notable chefs. Limited seating.

Guest Speaker: Fletcher Thorne-Thomsen Friday, June 20, 2:30 p.m. Ballroom, Tower at The Oaks
A presentation by Tower resident Fletcher Thorne-Thomsen is sure to be a riveting hour for those attending. Thorne-Thomsen will share his story of being among the first to enter Dachau as a young photographer during the liberation of concentration camps in the waning months of World War II. Architects of the New Italy: 1800-1871
Guest Speaker: Alexander Mikaberidze, PhD, LSUS Tuesday, June 24, 2 p.m. Ballroom, Tower at The Oaks LSUS history professor Alexander Mikaberidze, PhD, will discuss the creation of the Italian nation in the 19th century. The presentation will focus on factors and historical individuals that helped various Italian states to coalesce into a single Italian nation and offer insight into why Italy is such a diverse country. Diabetes and Pedorthic Foot Care
Guest Speaker: Jay Zaffater, certified pedorthist Wednesday, June 25, 10:30 a.m. Alta and John Franks Community Centre Diabetes can increase a person’s risk of having foot problems. Since the extreme consequence is amputation, foot care for someone with diabetes becomes a daily priority. Jay Zaffater will discuss innovative pedorthic devices that help diabetic patients suffering from foot pain and other issues Cost: $5, nonresidents. Registration is required.
