The Carolyn W. and Charles T. Beaird Family Foundation requests proposals for a new competitive grant opportunity, the Jim Montgomery Memorial Grant. Montgomery was the first executive director of the Beaird Foundation and this grant is being created in his memory and honor to provide opportunities for the types of programs that Montgomery loved and supported. Montgomery was a veteran journalist and civic activist born in Minden on June 7, 1945. Montgomery grew up in Springhill, and was a graduate of Centenary College. Montgomery spent his last eight years as executive director of the Carolyn W. and Charles T. Beaird Family Foundation. When Montgomery moved to Shreveport he served his adopted city in many ways, with the arts, theater and education as his special passions. Interested agencies should apply at www.beairdfoundation.org and must list their association with Montgomery as well as why they believe Montgomery would have enjoyed this project. Applications are now open with a deadline of June 7. This grant will be awarded to one agency for up to $25,000. Agencies are eligible to apply regardless of current awards or requests this year from the foundation. Awards will be announced on or about the first week of July. Contact Brandy Stroud at 221-2823 or email brandy@beairdfoundation.org, for more information.
