For Matt Snyder of RE/MAX Real Estate Services, real estate isn’t just a job or a paycheck—it’s a way of life. Snyder, Owner/Broker of his local RE/MAX franchise, received his Real Estate licenses in 2004 and started his career at Century 21 Winner’s Circle as Property Manager. In late 2005, after Century 21 dissolved, he and his wife Sarona purchased the property management division of Century 21 and decided to move to RE/MAX and open locally.
“I traveled local, regionally and nationally for the 25 years prior to getting my real estate license,” said Snyder. “It was a leap of faith for Sarona and me to leave the corporate job and stop traveling. I wanted to be home every night with Sarona and our children.”
Each RE/MAX office is licensed by the Louisiana Real Estate Commission and is independently owned and operated. Located at 9220 Ellerbe Road, Suite 800 in Shreveport, Snyder’s franchise has been well worth the risk. Even when other agencies were struggling with the economic hits of recent years, RE/MAX has stayed strong. “We have been blessed here in Shreveport/Bossier,” said Snyder. “We haven’t experienced the lows and highs like other parts of the country. The interest rates are low and the inventory is high.”
Snyder is a great example of how to balance work and family. He and his wife are parents to four kids—Erin, 23, Paul, 18 and a college student at LSU Baton Rouge, Olivia, a senior at C.E. Byrd and John, a junior at C.E. Byrd. “I’m not sure any of them wanted to have me home every night,” Snyder joked. “But it’s been great not to miss any of the ball games or special occasions.”
Snyder’s family is an important part of his career. “My wife Sarona has worked in real estate for many years, and I felt she would give me all the help and support I would need to succeed on this venture,” said Snyder. “Taking that step gave me the opportunity to be home and a part of the family.”
Even so, the business change has come with its own set of challenges. “Real estate is a full time job for sure,” said Snyder. “Seems like it’s 24/7/365, and even with a great team, it’s nonstop. Today’s consumer wants you to be available at all times.”
Snyder makes it work by loving what he does. “My career is about being able to help people accomplish their goals, whatever that may be,” said Snyder. He spends most of his day visiting with or talking to buyers, sellers and property owners about buying, selling and managing real estate. “We maintain a warm and inviting office with a professional environment that’s conducive to conducting business,” said Snyder. “Our goal is to help one another reach our personal and professional goals while always doing the right thing, no matter the cost.
Snyder is rightly proud of his company and their business ethics. “RE/MAX sells more real estate worldwide because of the type of agent they attract due to their business model—one that allows you to keep most of your commission,” said Snyder.
While most of what Snyder’s franchise does is residential, he has goals to branch out in the future. “We would love to have a great commercial agent or broker here with us,” said Snyder. “We want to continue to grow and expand with agents and brokers that have a solid, ethical and moral foundation.”
When he’s not working, Snyder enjoys traveling and spending time with his family. “Sarona and I love to travel with and without the kids,” said Snyder. “We also maintain Snyder House, which is a duplex here in Shreveport where patients of Feist- Weiller/LSU can stay for free during treatment if they are unable to pay for housing.”
