La Film Kickoff: Crowds packed artspace in Downtown Shreveport for the Louisiana Film Prize’s annual Festival Kickoff Party on Jan. 14. The standing room only crowd heard from La Film Prize Founder and Executive Director Gregory Kallenberg, who shared all of the exciting things planned for this year’s festival. Keith Sweat Concert: Keith Sweat, rhythm and blues/soul, singer-songwriter, record producer and radio personality attracted a large crowd throughout the Ark-La-Tex on Jan. 17 at DiamondJack’s Casino. A few people in the audience were celebrating their birthdays by attending. Sweat held a meet and greet after the concert.



Justinian: Guests posed in front of a poppy fi eld and then entered the Justinian ballroom through a hall likened to a tornado at the krewe’s event Jan. 24 at Horseshoe Casino. Once inside, large centerpieces centering around the “One Crazy, Wicked Night in Emerald City” theme were seen throughout the Riverdome. “The Wizard of Oz” movie was playing on the large screens and “fl ying monkeys” were on the stage. Many of the women wore emerald green gowns. Limelight Band of Dallas entertained after the presentation emceed by Marty Johnson and Jim McMichael, captain. King XX was Neil Erwin and queen was Berry Glassell. There was also a silent auction. Creative centerpieces included one made of ice, hot air balloons, Toto with basket, both witches, tornadoes, ruby slippers, Emerald City and a Wicked poster and some place settings included little brooms, Tin Man heart beads and bottles of water.



Bossier Gala: Nearly
600 members of Northwest Louisiana’s business community packed the
CenturyLink Center for the Bossier Chamber’s 66th Annual Gala on Jan.
28. The evening’s theme titled “Opening Doors to New Opportunities” was
selected to celebrate successes and highlight the vision of 2014. As the
community’s “front door” to connection, the chamber thanked investors
for their partnership. Incoming chairman is Jim Henderson, chancellor of
Bossier Parish Community College. The outgoing and incoming board of
directors were recognized and guests received the 2013 annual report.
The Business of the Year was extended to Builders Supply. Business
Person of the Year went to David Alvis, owner of Silverstar Smoke House.
Military Supporter of the Year was the Shreveport-Bossier Convention
and Tourist Bureau and Community Partner of the Year was Willis-Knighton
Health System. Sherry Stuckey was Diplomat of the Year.
