strives to practice the highest quality medicine and surgery. They keep
patients and clients as their first priority and remain committed to
the health and well being of every pet. Accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), UVH offers
a variety of specialty services that include minimally invasive
endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery, cancer staging and chemotherapy,
acupuncture, advanced dental treatments and cleanings, ultrasound,
orthopedics and stem cell therapy. Minimally invasive surgery, which
includes laparoscopic spays, allows animals to go home the same day and
have up to 65 percent less pain.
UVH
in a continuing attempt to provide the most advanced standards of
veterinary care, has recently added a veterinary specialist to their
team of qualified doctors. Dr. Jarod E. Williams, DVM, DACVIM SAIM, CVA,
is a Veterinary Internal Medicine Specialist as well as a Certified
Veterinary Acupuncturist. His addition to UVH’s team has created a new
dimension of care that was not otherwise offered in the region.
“Prior
to the addition of Dr. Williams, families in our region seeking
veterinary specialty care would have to travel to Dallas or Baton Rouge.
Adding a specialist to our team and broadening the level of care that
we are able to provide locally has been an objective for UVH,” said
owner Dr. Adam Foret, DVM.
“Our philosophy has always been to do the very best for each and every pet and Dr. Williams shares that viewpoint,”
said Foret. “At University Veterinary Hospital, we are very fortunate to
have a team of doctors with advanced training in many different aspects
of veterinary medicine. The addition of a specialist adds an another
layer to our team approach. We are very excited to bring the first veterinary specialist to North Louisiana. He is not only an accomplished veterinarian, but also a great family man.”
Williams
initially graduated with his BA in business administration/ accounting
from Southern Connecticut State University. “I was in business school in
New Haven and had a part time job at a local aquarium/reptile store,”
said Williams. “I soon found myself with several fish and reptile tanks,
two ferrets, a parakeet as well as a rescued greyhound and collie at
home. I took that as a sign that accounting may not be my passion. My
first position following graduation from college was as a volunteer
veterinary assistant.” Williams later attended Virginia Polytechnic
Institute & State University where he completed his pre-veterinary
science requirements, and then Virginia- Maryland Regional College of
Veterinary Medicine to complete his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)
in 1997. He interned in Chicago and completed his residencies at
Veterinary Referral Associates in Gaithersburg, Maryland. In 2002,
Williams received his diplomate certification for the American College
of Veterinary Internal Medicine and Small Animal Internal Medicine and
was later certified in Veterinary Acupuncture.
“My wife Heather went to LSU Veterinary School
with Dr. Adam and Dr. Catherine Foret and considers them both good
friends,” said Williams. “I can generally trust Heather’s call on
quality people. Cat and Adam have a unique teamoriented hospital, they
practice very progressive medicine and surgery and are always looking to
the future! They treat people with respect and compassion without
exception.” Ultimately it was the level of care and personal environment
at UVH that attracted Williams.
The
friendly and welcoming environment at UVH plays a big part in the
quality care they provide. This culture remains a top priority for both
Williams and the hospital. The team’s comprehensive treatment philosophy
keeps their practice at the forefront of animal medicine.
“Both
Heather and I have been influenced by strong family ties, and a strong
family unit is what we get working at UVH,” said Williams. “We all do
our best to practice the best medicine and surgery we can, and are open
to the use of different methods to do so. We all embrace and look
forward to change as it is the norm and not the exception.”
“We had many goals in joining UVH,” said
Williams. “The primary goal was to bring treatments to the Northwest
Louisiana region that were not available without significant travel such
as specialty procedures, oncology services and blood banking
facilities. Our animal blood bank is the first of its kind in the
region. Animals, like people, sometimes need blood products to aid in
the treatment of certain conditions. We are now able to provide these
products for the benefit of dogs and cats in North Louisiana. The second
goal was to set up a regionally beneficial interactive rapport with the
veterinary community by provision of certified continuing education,
lectures and consultation to benefit local veterinarians. Within the UVH
walls, we have daily case consultation with UVH staff veterinarians.
This activity facilitates discussion and decisions within the veterinary
team regarding best current practices for the hospital. Dr. Jarod
Williams is currently accepting new patients and specialty referrals.
His blend of science and compassion truly makes him an asset to
University Veterinary Hospital and North Louisiana.
