Cole Vosbury wins over audiences

Cole Vosbury is definitely not just another voice in the crowd. Steadily climbing the musical ladder of success on NBC’s hit show “The Voice,” Shreveport native Vosbury is making serious headway toward a win.

He wasn’t so confident of that possibility in the beginning, though. During the blind auditions, when CeeLo Green turned his chair to stake a claim on the gravel-voiced, soulful rocker, Vosbury was shocked – and more than a little grateful for the opportunity.

“I never imagined getting this far,” Vosbury said. “I never thought I would turn a chair. I count my blessings every day, and I’m so thankful that I have been given this opportunity.”

Vosbury is the second Shreveport native in a row to advance to the coveted top 12 on “The Voice,” having been saved from elimination via America’s popular votes, and now, he’s also secured his position in the top 10.

For Vosbury, music has been and remains a vital part of his life. “Music is something that I’ve always gravitated toward,” Vosbury said. “I’m a very emotional and sensitive person, and music has always been my way to express that and get that out.”

Being a contestant on “The Voice” has brought its share of pleasant surprises for Vosbury. “One thing I love about being on this show that I never even anticipated, is just being introduced to so many new songs that I’ve never heard before – namely some of the songs that my fellow contestants have done,” Vosbury said.

A few of the songs Vosbury has personally rocked for adoring fans and awed judges include “Let Her Go” and “Adorn.”

It’s not all glitz, glamour and fame on the set, though. Progressing this far on the show has its own share of challenges. “Being away from my family for so long is a new thing, and just that part of it is a little strange, but I’ve always known that to follow my dream, I had to leave home and go other places,” Vosbury said. “I think this is where that all starts for me. I’m getting my first taste of that.”

There’s also the element of eventually battling teammates during the live rounds. “Winning my battle was kind of bittersweet,” Vosbury said. “I went against a really good friend of mine, Lupe Carroll. He’s such a great singer, and I was honored to share the stage with him. I was so grateful that CeeLo had faith in me to continue in the competition.”

Vosbury said he is making a lot of memories. “I’ll never forget that moment, watching CeeLo’s chair turn,” Vosbury said. “Everything went into slow motion. I’m forever grateful and indebted to CeeLo Green. I owe a lot to him for that. I wouldn’t be here otherwise.”

Although Vosbury started out on Team CeeLo Green, he recently switched to Blake Shelton’s team after a knockout round led to Coach Green choosing teammate Jonny Gray to remain. It didn’t take long at all for both Shelton and rocker Adam Levine to throw in their lot for Vosbury to join them. Vosbury finally selected Shelton, and doesn’t regret it for a second.

“Interacting with Blake has been incredible. He’s such a genuine guy. There’s nothing phony about him or his perception on the show,” Vosbury said. “Another thing I love about him is that he always seems to be in the moment with us. As busy as he is, and as much as he has on his plate, I never feel like he’s thinking about where he has to be next. He’s really invested in us, and cares about us and our careers.”

Taking after his new coach, Vosbury continues to have a humble heart toward his fans and those who support him with so much love and encouragement. “It’s overwhelming knowing how many people are responding to what I’ve spent so long working on and continually trying to perfect,” he said.

Being on “The Voice” has given Vosbury a deeper sense of who he is overall. “I am a lot more confident as a person now,” Vosbury said. “And hearing these four superstar judges give you praise and compliments is so overwhelming. It really validates all the hard work I’ve been putting into my craft since I was a kid.”

No matter what happens next, Vosbury has big plans for his future. “In the next year, I want to make records and tour on however big a platform I can,” Vosbury said. “Whether I’m playing for 500 people or 10,000, I just want to make music for anyone who wants to hear it.”
