Buckley and wife Pat, parents of noted conservative William F. Buckley Jr., lived mostly in Stamford, Conn., but kept an apartment on East 63rd Street (not large enough for Pat’s 500-person memorial service) and spent winters in Gstaadt, Switzerland. They hung out with the Gailbraiths, David Niven, the Reagans, Kissingers and Truman Capote. Was there anyone they didn’t know? Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. was patriarch of one of America’s most powerful families, known for their love of family, their accomplishments and failures, their heroism and frailty, their loves and passions, and their patriotism and selfishness. In Maredia Bowdon’s presentation “Great American Families: The Buckleys and the Kennedys,” she will discuss the correlation between the two powerful dynasties and their impact on life in America.
