The LSU Health Science Foundation hosted its annual fundraising gala, “An Evening For Heroes,” May 2 at the Shreveport Convention Center. The evening was a tribute and thank you to all the first responders, doctors, nurses and other support personnel who helped save the lives of two people who were treated at the hospital. Zep Washington, who was rescued from a house fire in 2005, lost his ability to talk until a special procedure was performed last year at LSU Health Shreveport. He’s now been given his voice back. In 2011, the happy event of giving birth nearly turned tragic when Kathy Heitz began bleeding uncontrollably after a C-section. She was fl own to LSU Health Shreveport, which was the only hospital in the region with the advanced surgical services she needed.
