Pageant: The C.E. Byrd Band Boosters held its inaugural “Miss All Jack’ed Up” woman-less pageant April 3 in the C.E. Byrd Auditorium. Proceeds from the event will go toward purchasing a larger band equipment trailer and new sound equipment for the Jazz Band. The event’s judges were Chelsi Hefner, Miss Shreveport 2012; Meghan Hochstetler, Robinson Film Center’s director of education; and Jeff Everson, Shreveport councilman, District B. Doug Warner, KSLA 12, served as the event’s emcee.

Quota: Models stepped out in spring fashion on a chilly day for the Quota International of Bossier City’s Style Show on April 11 at the Hilton Garden Inn. Bossier City Mayor Lo Walker, Sheriff Julian Whittington, Tax Assessor Bobby Edmiston, Sonja Bailes and Dr. Sarah Glorioso were among the event’s models. Clothes were provided by Dillard’s and Pope’s. Spring fashion highlights included colorful fabrics, zippers, multiple bracelets, lace and nude shoes.

Dogs: “Barks and Brews,” billed as a “Yappy Hour” event, was held April 12 at Marilynn’s Place. There were drink specials and free appetizers. Proceeds benefi tted Robinson’s Rescue.

Trash: For the third year in a row, Shreveport Common put together teams for the Keep America Beautiful Great American Clean- Up held the morning of April 13. Participants received T-shirts, coffee and doughnuts, and a good feeling picking up trash and painting around the area of the new Central ARTSTATION. Following the clean up, participants were treated to a hotdog lunch and a tour of Central ARTSTATION.

Walk: The Go Global Walk for Humanity was held April 13 at Clyde Fant Parkway. The Institute for Go Global Outreach is a nonprofi t organization committed to creating awareness of global suffering as well as fi nding solutions to relieve the hardships of women.

Birthday: Dr. Joe Dudley Talbot celebrated his 99th birthday April 20 at his Shreveport home. The party was medical-themed. Talbot blew out all 99 candles on his fi rst try. Talbot would like to spend his 100th birthday at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.

Caring: More than 300 people attended the Community Renewal Maggie Lee Henson Celebration of Caring on April 20 in the Red River District. Shalon Lewis, manager of the Valencia neighborhood SPAR recreation center, was named recipient of the 2013 Caring Angel Award at the event. Lewis was recognized for her work with the youth, seniors and residents of her neighborhood. The celebration was sponsored by Red Ball Oxygen and also featured the Airline High School Jazz Band, a “fl ash mob” dance group and many other activities.

Gearhead: Gearhead Outfi tters held a naturalform running clinic, fun run and open house April 28 at its Mall St. Vincent location. Attendees could test run in the colorful Newton shoes.

The Arc: The Arc of Acadiana Northwest held a ribbon-cutting April 18 for the grand opening of its Northwest location in Bossier City. Arc representatives welcomed guests, gave a brief history of Arc of Acadiana and the Northwest facility and concluded with guided tours of the facility and grounds. In 2012, Arc of Acadiana, a nonprofi t organization committed to the promotion and protection of the rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, was awarded the contract from the state of Louisiana to privatize the 100-acre Northwest Supports and Services Center, located in Bossier City. Arc of Acadiana Northwest, as it is known locally, now provides care for approximately 130 residents on site. Arc brings its wide range of services, expertise and successful enterprises to serve the Shreveport/Bossier community.

Retirement: The Northwest Louisiana Association of Realtors honored Linda M. Morgan for her 25 years of dedicated service as association executive. The festive retirement celebration was held April 19 at East Ridge Country Club.
