Table: “Springtime Over Shreveport” was the theme of Tablescapes, a benefi t for the Spring Street Historical Museum. It was held Feb. 28 at East Ridge Country Club. It began with viewing of tables – garden by the sea, French-incorporating fl eur-de-lis items, Kentucky Derby and picnic – then a luncheon and style show. Designers included Kahre and Co., Enchanted Garden, McCary’s Jewelers and Sweet Caroline Designs. Maria Casten chaired the event.
Meals: The ninth annual March for Meals was held March 13 in Festival Plaza. The event’s special guest was Shreveport’s own Dallas Cowboy Morris Claiborne. Other participants included Byrd High School’s marching band and cheerleading squad, city council representatives, Caddo Council on Aging’s board of directors and representatives from many organizations and businesses who support seniors. In addition, area food and beverage vendors were on site for the event.
Mass: A votive Mass for Pope Francis was held March 14 at St. John Berchmans Cathedral. Priests also offered blessings upon Pope Benedict. The prayer of the faithful mentioned Pope Francis as being the reconciler of nations and one of the hymns was “The Church’s One Foundation.”
The Pardon: Filmed in Shreveport in 2007, “The Pardon” made its way to the big screen March 22, premiering at the Robinson Film Center. Husband and wife Tom Anton and Sandi Russell directed and wrote the screenplay, respectively. “The Pardon” is a period piece about Toni Jo Henry, the fi rst woman executed in Louisiana. A question-and-answer-session followed the viewing.
CASA: The 11th annual Light of Hope, held April 2, featured 400 white bags representing abused and neglected children, on the steps of Caddo Parish Juvenile Court. Volunteers for Youth Justice along with Court Appointed Special Advocates hosted the event. In 2012, CASA’s staff and volunteers provided services to more than 480 children and their families in six parishes throughout northwest Louisiana, helping abused and neglected children fi nd safe, permanent homes. The Woodlawn ROTC Color Guard presented the colors, and the children’s choir of First Baptist Church sang “This Little Light of Mine.”







Little Theatre: The
Shreveport Little Theatre Guild presented “Hats Off to Broadway” on
April 5 at East Ridge Country Club. Guests dined on petit fi let and
crabmeatstuffed shrimp served with asparagus and a twice-baked potato.
Silent and live auctions offering trips, jewelry and a theatre cocktail
party were among the event’s festivities. A female quartet and pianist
performed.
Margaritaville: Louisiana
Boardwalk shoppers were treated to a performance by multiaward winning
songwriter Matt Hoggatt at the doorway of Margaritaville Bossier City’s
retail store and welcome center April 6. The Mississippi Gulf Coast
artist brought his unique “Gulf Western” style to the Margaritaville
venue, showcasing his original songs. Those 21 and over could also sign
up for the Margaritaville Player’s Club Card. The casino will open in
June.
Bank: Home
Federal Bank held an appreciation event for customers and prospective
business customers April 11 at its Mansfi eld Road branch location.
Guests enjoyed refreshments and learned about the bank’s services.
Komen: The
Susan G. Komen Northwest Louisiana board of directors held an open
house April 11 for its new offi ce, located on Fairfi eld Avenue.
Traditional pink refreshments were served and information on upcoming
events was handed out.
