Gumbeaux Events Productions

By it’s nature, a pot of Gumbo consists of a little bit of this and a little bit of that.

So it made sense 10 years ago for Terri Mathews to name her new business Gumbeaux Event Productions.

“We were a mixture of everything,” Mathews said. “We weren’t just a sound company. We weren’t just a lighting company. We weren’t just a trade show company. We did it all…we did a little bit of everything.”

A decade later, Gumbeaux is still doing “a little bit of everything”. At its core, Gumbeaux provides lighting, audio and visual support for events—everything from Christmas in the Sky, to the Louisiana Peach Festival, to concerts at DiamondJacks Casino and Resort.

“I love when other people come expecting something and not only do you deliver that, you deliver a little bit more,” Mathews said. “Give them the “Wow!” factor. That’s what we pride ourselves on at Gumbeaux Productions.

But Mathews has also added to the “mix”. She manages The Supper Club, which is a downtown Shreveport event venue. She also manages Shreveport West Center, which is home to retail tenants as well as party rooms where people can hold events.

While owning and operating her business, Mathews continues to be involved with the event where she found her calling. Twenty-Seven years ago, Mathews volunteered to help publicize the Mudbug Madness festival. She is now in her 22nd year the event’s chairman.

“Mudbug is how I got my start in all of this. It’s still very much a part of who I am and what I do.”

For Mathews, Mudbug Madness is also a source of pride.

“When I started out it was a day and a half around old Expo Hall,” Mathews remembers. “Now, it’s grown into a four-day event that is one of the Top 100 festivals in the country and Top 20 in the Southeast. It was addicting to take it and watch it grow and realize what part you played in that and what a part the community played in it. “ Chances are, Mathews isn’t finished. After all, there’s always room in the gumbo pot for a little bit more.
