It makes you warm on the inside. It takes you back in time with just a sniff. It makes you remember a moment, a parent, a grandparent or perhaps the whole family. What is it? It’s comfort foods! What exactly is a comfort food? Well, simply put, it’s food that is usually uncomplicated, easy to prepare and typically stimulates fond memories. The associations we make with food are very diverse, so what I see as comfort food may be vastly different from your ideas. Being a chef, many might assume that my tastes of comfort would be some exquisite gourmet offering. The truth is, during a nostalgic moment, I reflect on the foods my mother prepared that still make me feel warm and fuzzy today. I offer you a view into my perspective of comfort food and share a menu that has brought me pleasure for … well, let’s just say over 50 years.
