Continuing our quest to keep our readers refreshed and beautiful, we present “Glow: The Beauty Issue.” Inspired by the idea of being the best you can be, we go skin deep – and more. The model on the cover showcases the work of the talented makeup and hair artists at Couture MakeupBar and Salon and the photographic wizardry of Legacy Photography’s Terri and Tim Eddington. We love the pop of silver around the eyes and the glossy lips for summer. Wear matte lips in the fall.

We have added two health professionals to our lineup. Dr. Josephine Futrell will help us care for our skin and guide us in aging beautifully. Alicia Smith will share diet and nutrition tips and in this article offers advice that keeps us on the right track with healthy portions you can measure without a scale or measuring cup.

Introduced in this issue is “Let’s Talk Antiques.” Writer Susan Reeks met with John Veuleman of The London Gallery, and they give us the rundown on English antiques, their history and amazing value in today’s market. For classic and traditional, these fine pieces set the stage for any sophisticated home.

A new feature on travel starts in this issue, and Katy and George Merriman share their trip to Germany, Prague and the Czech Republic. For the Merriman family, a highlight was their personal time with people who had lived on opposite sides of the Berlin Wall – and how different their perspectives were before and after the fall of communism. This “living history” was an unexpected but rewarding surprise.

Part of what keeps our hearts happy, our children, are spotlighted throughout the issue. From entering kindergarten to sending them off to college, the most prized thing a parent has is about to take their first step, or misstep, without them. Our esteemed contributors share their hopes and fears for their precious offspring as education enters the lives of families.

Among our featured profiles, artist Tafffie Garsee, winner of 2014 “Critical Mass II” at artspace, garnered her her own art show and found her sometimes outspoken voice could be better heard through her creative expressions in art.

An artist of the cooking kind, Chef Holly Moore Schreiber, the culinary director and owner of Sainte Terre in Benton, is in the spotlight. A graduate of TCU and French Culinary Institute in New York City, Schreiber spent years working in culinary media production and has worked on-set for Bravo TV Network.

For our professional profile, we chose Jacquelyn Barber. She founded Elite Quarters Corporate Lease after realizing there were no available furnished properties for a higher-end, short-term clientele.

The virtual army of actors and movie people that descended on us after the hurricanes in 2005 found that Barber knew the right address for everyone. Also a creative type, she is the art director for the Philadelphia Center Auction Against AIDS, as well as a set designer for Christmas in the Sky. Her dazzling personality and energy will pull you along in her magic spell.

Chef John Strand instructs on how to prepare sushi and sashimi rolls and extolls the healthiness of these standouts of Asian cuisine. Our Lady Who Lunches, Lynn Laird, takes us to Cabo San Lucas (well, Bossier City) and shares one of her favorite places, Don Juanz Baja Beach Tacos. You order at the counter, but it is full-service and full flavor after you have a seat.

Get comfortable and pour your favorite iced beverage. Sit back and enjoy some time with your friends at CityLife Magazine.

Have a beautiful summer.
