Lydia Earhart

At the start of my career in journalism, my mentor and co-worker said something to me one night after she admitted she was considering leaving the newspaper.

“What I’ve learned and known since I’ve started here is that the paper will always come out tomorrow,” she said.

It was a little harsh to hear as a budding journalist, but it was true. It was a way in the newsroom of saying, “The sun will come out tomorrow.”

After three years as editor, this will be my last issue with CityLife and The Forum. This has been my dream job for many reasons, and I will always appreciate Jay Covington for this opportunity.

This kind of work is very gratifying. There is not one day that is the same, and I am barely ever tied to my desk for more than two days. I get to meet people from all walks of life and share their stories.

I am humbled by the women whom I met while working on CityLife. They are inspirational and beautiful beyond the physical sense. In this position, I have found the unsung heroes. They aren’t on the covers of any other magazine, but it has been my pleasure putting them on the cover of this one. It is for what they do in their lives – not who they are.

What sets CityLife apart is what we hope to build in you, our readers. We bring you a sense of confidence to perhaps stand up for a cause you believe in, start your own business or to continue living your life. There is meaning within these pages, and this is our legacy.

My heart will always be in the stories that I write and with those women who share them. During my time as editor, this community has lifted me up continually, and I am grateful.

There is possibly no other place like Shreveport-Bossier City where you could shake hands with the mayor, be six degrees away from anyone or have lunch with the editor of two publications. This community runs more like a family than in separate entities, and that is what makes us stick.

After I leave this job, I will always be an advocate for the people in Shreveport-Bossier City and help them make connections.

It has been a beautiful, inspiring and empowering time in my life. These memories will last a lifetime. If you would like to stay in touch, email me at lydiaearhart@gmail.com.
