Karmen Rubin is one of those stylish young professionals you can’t help but notice. Rubin is the a mother of a 4-year-old and works at Goodwill Industries of Northwest Louisiana. Not only is she beautiful on the outside, she has a big heart for her community.

Do you have any style icons?

RUBIN: I don’t have a specific style icon. I enjoy style for what it is. I believe style expresses who we are and what we value. Style is ever present and ever evolving so I embrace it from everyone!

Do you prepare your outfits in the morning or the night before?

RUBIN: I have my mother to thank for how and when I prepare my outfits. I actually prepare my work and social outfits the Sunday evening before each week begins. This makes my mornings less stressful and allows for more ‘me time.’ It also gives me a chance to compare what outfits to wear with what meetings or events I have scheduled.

What is your favorite piece in your closet?

RUBIN: Right now my favorite piece is a black and white floor length skirt from a clothing line called Mint Green. This skirt is a statement piece in itself and putting bright colored tops with it gives me a comfortable flow of style and freedom.

How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?

RUBIN: Depending on the mood of my 4-year-old ... it takes me right at one hour to get ready and out the door.

How would you describe your personal style?

RUBIN: I would describe my personal style as very classic and modern mixed with sassy-chic.

Does your career at Goodwill play a role on your fashion choices?

RUBIN: Yes, my career does play a role on my fashion choices. I believe everyone should value their style and the effect it can have on their career. Looking your best inside and outside the workplace is very important.

Do you have any style secrets?

RUBIN: My favorite style secret comes from Sandra Bullock. ‘If you don’t absolutely love it in the store or when you’re buying it, chances are, you won’t like it when you get home.’ Buy what you love and can’t see yourself without.

What is your favorite local place to shop?

RUBIN: My favorite local places to shop are Francesca’s, Dillard’s and H&M. They’re my go to spots when I’m pressed for time. I can always find something to mix or match with what I already have or find a piece that inspires a totally new outfit.

Who do you get inspiration from?

RUBIN: I get my fashion inspiration from the generations before me. My grandmother and mother have always taught me to wear what looks good on you and makes you feel your best. These style divas continue to inspire me every day. If you are inspired by what you wear, the world will be too!
