Being the first and only female Orthodontist in Northwestern Louisiana has been exciting for Dr. Morgan Trahant Lang. Her journey here has been a long one, but well worth it. She is a native of Natchitoches, Louisiana, a graduate of LSU School of Dentistry and completed her Orthodontic Residency in Washington, DC. After graduating residency, Dr. Lang partnered with Dr. H. O. Blackwood in July 2012. Her partnering in this practice was unique because she met Dr. Blackwood in 1998, as a patient, when he placed braces on her. “Never in a million years did I think I would be joining my Orthodontist in practice, but I did, and I am very happy to be here. The field of Orthodontics grows daily and Dr. Blackwood has been instrumental in helping establish my patient base while offering insight to his vast knowledge in orthodontic treatment.”
With the support of her family, friends and staff, Dr. Lang’s office is helping to make a difference in the area one smile at a time. The Shreveport- Bossier community has been very welcoming including local Dentists and Orthodontists, which have offered their support, guidance and encouragement. According to Dr. Lang, “One of the best parts about coming home is how inviting and helpful my colleagues in this industry have been in helping me to grow the Lang and Blackwood Orthodontic practice. Since returning to Louisiana, I feel there is more interest from young women desiring a career in Dentistry/ Orthodontics. This is evident by several young high school girls asking questions about my career and observing my ortho team in action, which is all very encouraging.”
Dr. Lang works closely with the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery team at LSU Health Shreveport, lead by Dr. G. E. Ghali, treating children and young adults with dentofacial deformities including cleft lips and palates. She is a member of the American Association of Orthodontics, American Dental Association and the Louisiana Dental Association and an active member of the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier. She spends her free time playing tennis for multiple teams and hanging out with her husband Eric and their two French bulldogs.
