Local owner creates ‘candy store’ of beauty products

Faith Good always knew she wanted to own her own business and bring something unique to the community.

At just 18 years old, Good opened Pretty Cosmetics, a full-service beauty shop. Now eight years later, her business has expanded into an additional store, her own line of make-up products and a future of possibilities.

“I wanted something I could be proud of, and I wanted to bring something to this area. I definitely wanted to follow in my father’s footsteps and be an entrepreneur,” Good said. “I wanted to bring something unique to the area.”

After establishing the beauty salon at the Boardwalk and then moving to the Villagio in Bossier City, Good felt it was time to expand, wanting a second location with more of a boutique atmosphere in addition to being a cosmetic store. With a full-service hair salon, cosmetics bar and storefront boutique, Couture Cosmetics, located at 5804 Line Ave. in the Uptown Shopping Center, has become a onestop shop for beauty needs.

“We all just thought there was a place for that in Shreveport, and so far it’s been successful,” she said. “At the time [we opened], Shreveport didn’t have any of the [major retail cosmetic stores]. I wanted to be a local business that could stand along with all of those chains, and thus far we’ve done so.”

Good expanded her Pretty Cosmetics brand by also creating her own make-up line, something she had her sights on from the very beginning and continues to grow.

“We have a full range of make-up, from foundation, powder, lipstick and lip gloss, to mascara –we have everything,” she said. “I went to New York to a company where I could create my own brand [of make-up products] and was able to make a line that what was in my vision. I knew I wanted certain kinds of foundation and lipsticks. I had my favorites that I used and wanted to model after those just because they were great products.”

“I’m in the process of getting my products in other stores,” Good said. “There’s a few salons I’ve talked to about getting my brand in their store. I want to start in the Shreveport-Bossier City area and then work my way out to Texas and maybe Arkansas. We’ve been here for eight years and made a real name for ourselves, so I think it’s a great time to expand this part of my brand.”

In all of her success, Good maintains her priority in running a business is tending to her clientele. “I wanted my store to be like a candy store for women,” she said. “They can come in and play with all the make-up, and get helpful how-to tips and techniques. A lot of the times, I think corporate business lacks that hometown feel of customer service, and that’s something we want to be our number one priority. [Customer service] is where you grow that relationship with a client, and they’re not just a customer. I wanted to be able to have a woman come in if she wasn’t comfortable with her skin or make-up and let her find her own beautiful within the store. It’s very rewarding to have people leave with a huge smile on their face.”

Focusing on their services offered, Good said Couture Cosmetics caters to homecomings, proms, balls and weddings but that they want to get involved in any kind of “Girls Night Out” functions, where they can come for just a quick touch-up or get ready for a special occasion.

The boutique-beauty salon recently underwent renovations to accommodate their ever-expanding services. Adding three additional hair stylists for their salon and bringing a doctor on board for their newly added med-spa, Couture Cosmetics will now offer medical treatments such Botox, Juviderm, laser treatments and chemical peels. From hair extensions, waxing and keratin treatments to makeovers and chemical peels, the shop has become the all-encompassing beauty salon Good once envisioned.
