Speaker shares ‘ideas for greatness’

Jason Witten, tight end for the Dallas Cowboys, gave his three ideas for greatness at the 2013 AdvoCare V100 Bowl Kickoff Luncheon held July 17 at the Shreveport Convention Center. He once played in Independence Stadium in a 2006 preseason game. Witten discussed three characteristics of greatness, encouraging people to chase it. You must hate to lose more than you love to win, recognize the value of association of others around you (your inner circle) and learn that adversities and challenges will be the inner fire to create a legacy. Witten said he kept a quote book as a teen and cited some from Dr. Martin Luther King and John Wooden. Witten was the 2012 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year and has created the SCORE Foundation, hosts free youth football clinics in his hometown and helped establish learning centers in three cities. He said having a bowl game helps build a community and each playing year begins with a clean slate. This year’s bowl game is Dec. 31.
