Nest Fest, an event that helps conquer homelessness, was held Aug. 3 at the Bossier Civic Center. The fundraiser is a benefit for the Renesting Project that provides gently used furniture and household items to clients of registered social service agencies as they transition from homelessness. Hundreds of men, women and children have been served since January of 2010. Agencies that have been helped include the Fuller Center, Volunteers of America Homeless Veterans program, Caddo Parish Schools, Hope for the Homeless, Easter Seals and Overton Brooks Medical Center Homeless Veterans Program.
Nest Fest is held in memory of Lauren Leigh Colvin, a daughter, sister and friend to so many. Her heart and desire to help others were enormous. Her passion for parties and fun was just as large, and these are the things the organizers want to continue.
Live auction items included an autographed John Mayer guitar, onyx and diamond pendant and trip to Italy. Raffle tickets included the first pitch at an LSU baseball game and football signed by Johnny Manziel.
Hundreds of people attend and bid on auction items. These purchases and attendance have helped raise more than $200,000 over three years.
