Windrush Grill at Provenance is a bit of a hidden treasure. Located off the beaten path on Provenance Place Boulevard, Windrush is a friendly all-American eatery and bar with an upscale twist on décor and food, brought to Shreveport by the same folks who gave us Cantina Laredo in Shoppes at Bellemead.Set in the quaint Provenance development, Windrush is housed in a beautiful dining area with dramatic high ceilings and a fine contemporary art collection.Their bar is at the heart of the space, and they offer a sunny patio for the summer months and a large fireplace for those wintery evenings. They also have a private dining room for personal or corporate events.

They boast an eclectic menu selection, ranging from classic steak and seafood dinners to an impressive, innovative burger collection. They offer hearty pasta dishes, fresh salads and an enticing list of sandwiches you just won’t find anywhere else.

We started our meal with two classic dishes in their own rights — the hearty steak croustades, warm, shaved angus beef soaked in a red wine reduction on ciabatta toast with a creamy blue cheese sauce; and their signature deep-fried dill pickle chips.

We then progressed to their mesclun salad, comprised of mixed greens, dried cranberries, pecans, tomato, avocado, crumbled blue cheese and cranberry vinaigrette — the perfect summery salad.

Our entrée selection was, as always, a challenge. We rose to the occasion and chose their Chicken Provenance, grilled chicken breast in a lemon and white wine sauce, topped with goat cheese and sundried tomatoes and served with fettuccine and marinara sauce. The rich goat cheese and flavorful lemon-white wine reduction made this dish something special.

We also tried another signature dish, Chris’ Dagwood sandwich — a grown-up grilled cheese heaven. The Dagwood piles cheese toast high with ham, turkey, bacon avocado, lettuce, tomato, purple onion and jalapenos. Served with their fresh cole slaw, this sandwich is packed with flavor and brings all the best elements of a classic club sandwich and elevates them to new heights.

Our meal ended on a dramatic note with the ultimate dessert — the chocolate sack. A literal sack made from milk chocolate, it’s

filled with cake, ice cream, graham crackers, toasted almonds, marshmallow cream and fresh strawberries, topped with whipped cream and drizzled with a touch of chocolate and caramel. Arriving with gorgeous presentation, you crack open the sack with spoons to free the delicious components inside. It’s truly a dessert you won’t fine anywhere else in town.

This special little spot is certainly worth the sunny drive. You’ll be glad you stopped by.
