May 13, 1966: Chicago—Frank Klensch of Tolibia Cheese Distributing Corp. was elected president of the American Blue Cheese Association here this week. Keith Tuttle of Pure Milk Association was elected vice president, and A. Cassinerio of Stella Cheese Company was re-elected as treasurer.

Minneapolis, MN—Carrying good news on farm income, relaxation on hide exports and an explanation for recent dairy actions, Secretary of Agriculture Freeman bade this week for farmer understanding in an address here on agricultural exports. Food prices are not inflationary, Freeman said. In fact, if farm prices had advanced as much as others, consumers would be paying several billion dollars more annually.

May 10, 1991: Washington—Contrary to some claims that have been made, BST is a technology that, based on today’s research findings, poses no additional risk to consumers, does not produce adverse health effects to cows, and will not alone economically disadvantage the traditional farm operator, according to a new report by the Office of Technology Assessment.

Albany, NY—Acting under mandates of a bill recently passed by the state legislature and signed into law by Gov. Mario Cuomo, NYS Commissioner of Agriculture & Markets Richard McGuire this week announced emergency minimum prices for all milk produced in New York State.

Cambridge, MA—Bernard “Bernie” Horton, 68, a longtime expert in the areas of whey and whey processing and membrane processing, among others, died here this week. A Cornell University graduate, Horton was a member of the team that developed and built the world’s first whey protein concentrate plant in New Zealand.
