More than 1,000 unionized workers at the Encore Boston Harbor voted Thursday to authorize a strike at the Everett casino.

The strike authorization comes as the workers’ contract with casino owner Wynn Resorts is set to expire on Aug. 31.

The workers, part of Unite Here Local 26 and Teamsters Local 25, are housekeepers, cooks, servers, bartenders and slot attendants. The union is advocating for a raise for Encore workers.

The authorization means the workers could begin striking at any time after the end of the month. According to the union, they will not announce a date in advance if they elect to strike.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Wynn Resorts said that the casino is looking to reach an agreement with the workers and has “put forward a serious proposal, one that is grounded in financial reality. What we cannot do is sign an agreement that is not financially sustainable, because an unsustainable agreement could put jobs at risk, for union and non-union employees alike.”

According to a press release from Unite Here Local 26, 95% of eligible workers cast votes in favor of the strike.

“We’re proud of what we built at Encore, and we take pride in the work we do every day,” said Sem Avdic, a warehouse worker and member of Teamsters Local 25, in a statement. “We work hard to make this company successful, and we believe we deserve a fair contract that allows us to provide for our families.”

In March, a group of workers at Seamark Seafood and Cocktails, a restaurant within the casino, were laid off after they took steps to join the union. The restaurant, managed not by Wynn but Las Vegas-based Carver Road Hospitality, closed later that month.
