Your chance to try local restaurants at special prices

It’s the most delicious time of the year once again: for two weeks, restaurants participating in Dine Out Boston will offer discounted prix fixe tasting menus, allowing foodies to explore restaurants that are typically reserved for special occasions.

The range of restaurants is vast, geographically and in terms of cuisine. There are offerings in all 23 Boston neighborhoods as well as Cambridge, Somerville, Brookline and beyond. Lunch menus range from $27-$36 for two to three courses and dinner menus range from $36-$55 for three courses. Many menus have an optional wine or cocktail addon; drinks can also be ordered a la carte.

“Boston’s culinary scene is receiving the recognition it deserves,” said Martha J. Sheridan, president and CEO of Meet Boston. “We are a premier dining destination and we want residents and visitors alike to experience it through our Dine Out Boston program.”

Capricho Colombian Steakhouse in Brookline is participating for the first time, offering a three-course dinner menu for $55 per person. From the appetizers, choose fresh oysters, papa rellenes, yuca croquettes or a tangy beet citrus salad. For an entree, make the call between a sweet and sour tropical salmon, chicken medallions and a savory, slowbraised osso buco. The evening ends on a sweet note with flan or merengón de fresas.

It’s been a big year for Boston.

With celebrations of the nation’s 250th anniversary, Sail Boston and the Tall Ships and the FIFA World Cup, there’s been a lot of attention on the Hub. Now, in the wake of Boston’s first Michelin awards last year, it’s time to focus on the food.

On the Meet Boston website, hungry Bostonians can search by price point, for lunch or dinner options, by neighborhood and even by which restaurants have outdoor seating. Diners can also search for restaurants serving vegetarian and vegan menus for Dine Out; there are a total of 27.

Dine Out Boston, presented by Meet Boston in partnership with the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism, runs through Aug. 15.

“Dine Out Boston is perfect for a family excursion, date night or a gathering with friends or colleagues,” said Sheridan.

She hopes the program will encourage diners to explore Boston in other ways as well.

“Pair your Dine Out experience with a concert, museum visit, outdoor movie or a trip to Fenway to see the red-hot Red Sox,” she said.
