The HealYourLovePeriod organization is preparing to host its “North Star Tour” on Jan. 14 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The gathering will bring “breathwork and sound healing to Boston, along with a grounding, heart-opening experience designed to release stress from the body and reconnect you with gratitude, peace and community.”

The event will be held at First Church at 66 Marlborough St. in the Back Bay. Attendees of all levels are encouraged to come as they are.

Founders Darren and Gloria Hagood will facilitate the event, as they are trained in spiritual care and emotional well-being, so attendees will not have to carry any heavy emotions on their own. The Hagoods talked about their excitement about bringing their “North Star Tour” to the city and what attendees can look forward to.

“We are excited to do breath work, sound healing and … a guided meditation, focusing on tapping into the inner wisdom, and allowing us to be our guide as we go [in]to this new year and of course, doing it in community,” Gloria said.

Darren said he and Gloria decided to name their tour “The North Star” because of their shared admiration of Harriet Tubman.

“Her spiritual practice was deeply rooted in her faith and in African tradition as well. [The] part of it that overlaps with what we’re doing in this tour is that in the midst of the craziness that was going on in the world, Harriet Tubman wasn’t here to fight what was going on, she had her attention on her vision going North,” he said. “She had such [a] deep spiritual connection with God [and] with the Spirit, that she was able to get out, go back and get others out of a place of bondage.”

Although The Hagoods have studied biblical text and hold Master of Divinity degrees, along with their years of experience in traditional church spaces, they make it clear that “this is not a religious event and all are welcome to participate, if they identify as Black and could benefit from communal support on their [personal life] journey.”

The couple shared their belief about why it is important to have safe spaces such as their tour to provide community members. They recalled that when they set out to get their training and certification to facilitate these practices, they were often the only Black people in the spaces. Yet once they began hosting these spaces for the Black community, attendees would tell them that they felt much more comfortable knowing that they were going to be around people like themselves.

“Now more than ever, when we have so much going on in the external world,” Gloria said, “I urge and encourage us as a community to go within and spend time with like-minded individuals, so that we can face the society around us from a place of strength, confidence and renewed energy.”
