Crazzy Tacos opened this month in the Lamplighter Brewing Co. Cambridge Crossing Taproom featuring a menu of traditional favorites with a fresh, creative twist.

Husband and wife duo Gerber and Edilma Rodriguez have been cooking professionally for 16 years and their dream of opening a taco-centric restaurant has finally come true. Crazzy Tacos opened this month in the Lamplighter Brewing Co. Cambridge Crossing Taproom, where they serve up crispy nachos, bulging burritos and all the guac you can eat.

“We have eaten tacos since childhood and we love them,” the couple said. “We decided to make different fusions of regular tacos which is why ‘Crazzy Tacos’ has two Zs — something extra.”

As a result of that creativity, diners can enjoy chicken tinga tacos with mango salsa and buffalo tofu tacos topped with takis for a crunchy twist. Some of their most popular items are the nachos, overflowing with black beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream and a few types of cheese, and the al pastor tacos jazzed up with a pineapple pico de gallo.

Gerber and Edilma ran the kitchen at Pepita Coffee Co. at Lamplighter’s original Broadway taproom for many years.

That experience, along with work at other restaurants like Petit Robert, prepared them for this exciting venture. They decided to launch Crazzy Tacos one year ago in hopes of bringing more of their cultural favorites to Bostonians.

They say they chose to highlight tacos “because of our traditions and customs. We always eat a taco accompanied by a good beer and a spicy sauce. The best at a party! We hope that customers like our great work and care.”

For that first year, Crazzy Tacos popped up sporadically at Lamplighter’s breweries. Now they’ve made Cambridge Crossing a permanent home.

Lamplighter co-founder Cayla Marvil said, “Since the beginning, we wanted to bring in a food offering to the CX taproom that pairs well with our beer, and to bring one in with two folks that are such excellent cooks and friends is a true joy.”

Whether diners are snacking on fresh mango slices sprinkled with tajin or crafting a beer pairing to go with the crispy patatas bravas drizzled with sour cream, Gerber and Edilma hope diners feel full and welcomed. That’s what keeps them going.

“Cooking for guests that tell you they like your food and come back day after day motivates us to be better and serve more people,” they said. “I hope that with every bite you feel satisfied, surprised and excited to come back for the next one.”
