A sweet new shop has landed in Downtown Lafayette filled with funky pieces and a fresh young vibe. Shop Three Little Birds set up shop on Vermilion Street at the former Genterie Supply Co. (the menswear store moved to Jefferson Street into a larger space and began carrying womenswear just months ago).

While the shop doors opened in March, owner Leah Maxwell truly has years of experience under her belt. She began the store online nearly three years ago and garnered a following that made it possible to turn an online endeavor into racks and dressing rooms.

Maxwell, a single mother of two, founded her store as a way to make ends meet in addition to her job nursing. She began Shop Three Little Birds strictly online, and when the Downtown spot became available took the plunge.

The store has a variety of easy pieces with a following of gals who look like they made the quick trek from UL’s campus to the new store. From little rompers and T-shirt soft dresses to boho chic maxis, the store has a simple vibe.

When asked how Maxwell would define the store, she says pieces she carries don’t fit a certain genre. They all, however, have one thing in common — they are pieces Maxwell herself likes.

And for the store name? She explains how she would play the song “Three Little Birds” for her children and believed “every little thing would be alright.” The Maxwell posse are the three little birds. If the traffic on the day we stopped in is any indication, the trio certainly will be all right.

BRIGHTER SPACE

The gals at Coco Eros headed to Parc Lafayette in June after years located near Marcello’s Wine Market Café on Kaliste Saloom Road. Owner Emily Adams says it was time for something fresh.

“We really like the fact there’s a lot going on in this area, and we have more windows here,” Adams says.

While the square footage isn’t a big boost, the layout of the store does create an illusion of a larger space. The shop is located next to Agave, and ample windows on both the front and back of the store create massive display areas and a vibe that’s all open space. — AJH
