FUN WITH FRITCHEYCAP CITY
One way to track the impact of the bombshell that hit Blago is, oddly enough, through the Facebook musings of State Rep. John Fritchey, chair of the General Assembly’s judicial committee and a leading member of the impeachment committee.
Before Dec. 9, his Facebook friends heard a lot of boring whining about his apparently nasty cold. By Dec. 16, though, he had become a media darling, appearing on CNN, MSNBC and FOX. He was also complaining about having stayed so unusually long in the capital city that he had run out of clean clothes and feared he might have to show up for the hearing wearing Wranglers and a flannel shirt (because, you know, we’re all hayseed hicks and that’s all we’ve got in our stores down here in Not Chicagoland).
But the nice thing about Fritchey is that despite the dramatic uptick in the chaos of his schedule, he has managed to mostly honor his holiday pledge to post a music video for his friends every day. We’ve seen the predictable classics like Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas,” Chris Brown’s “This Christmas,” Otis Redding’s “Merry Christmas Baby,” and Al Green’s “O Holy Night,’ but also spicier chestnuts like Bing and David Bowie’s duet of “Little Drummer Boy,” The Ramones’ “Merry Christmas,” Adam Sandler’s “Chanukah Song,” Kurtis Blow’s “Christmas Rapping,” and a vivdly anti-war video set to Stevie Wonder’s “Someday at Christmas.”
For these precious gifts, we send Fritchey warmest wishes for happy hols, and offer a personal tour of the local Jos.A.Bank.
