Hailing from Taylorville and consistently booked all over central Illinois, this classic rock band resurrects good songs, layering sweet harmony and strong lead vocals over an assortment of instruments not regularly found in area groups to allow for an extremely wide variety of material. Bandmates Sam Lacy (guitar, bass, keys, vocals), Tom Lacy (guitar, bass, keys, vocals), Dwain McAfee (keyboards, trumpet, vocals), Trene Pinnell (bongos, congas, drums, vocals), Terry Ransdell (drums) and Maxwell Slazinik (bass, saxophone) bring on the songs that “feature lush vocal harmonies, intricate guitar voicings, enhanced percussion, with added brass and woodwind colorations” as described on their nicely produced website. Who’s to argue with that, and why would they? Just come to enjoy the full-bodied vibes of Vigor Mortis on tunes from familiar and successful artists like the Eagles, Beatles, Zombies, Tom Petty, Neil Young, America, Stray Cats, Van Morrison and many, many more. Plus they have the coolest and possibly the strangest name around, and they always have some fun when playing.
