As our young troubadour completes his “summer tour” of acoustic venues in central Illinois and heads back to college, we salute Jimmy Riemer in a job well-done of entertaining and performing for literally hundreds of listeners during the last couple of months. Way back in his younger days (a few years ago), Jimmy learned the trade of singing songs accompanied by an acoustic guitar with Micah Walk and Dave Littrell as his friends and mentors, then Jimmy took the ball and ran with it, as they say. His setlist moves from obscure indie-rock to deep classic cuts, along with an assortment of popular rock songs, all done with professionalism and aplomb, care and cadence, rhythm and rhyme. This Sunday is Jimmy’s last gig before returning to school in Athens, Georgia, and it’s set to be a special day as Danenberger’s releases a new wine called Straight to You, named after a Deep Hollow song. True to form, Jimmy stays busy beforehand with gigs at The Office Bar and Grill (Thursday, July 26 from 8-11 p.m.) and the Sherman Village Park Amphitheater (Friday, July 27 from 6-9 p.m.).
